Naturalmat Organic Mattresses

Since our 3-year-old sleeps on a toddler bed that uses his old crib mattress I have been on the hunt for a new crib mattress for our second baby who is due to arrive at any moment.

After doing a lot of research and stumbling upon information about regular mattresses leaching formaldehyde and other chemical including arsenic to make them flame retardant I knew that I wanted a mattress that didn’t have any of the chemicals. Babies spend a lot of their time in close proximity of their mattress and I think it’s important to know what their mattress is made of.

Enter the Coco Mat mattress from Naturalmat. The Coco Mat is an organic crib mattress that is filled with coir from the only certified organic coir plantation in the world. Coir is made from coconut husks which are extremely supportive and breathable. The coir is then wrapped in organic lambswool which is bathed in a mixture made from extracts of lavender, lemon and eucalyptus making it completely anti-dust mite as well as maintaining the excellent thermal insulating properties of natural wool.

Naturalmat mattresses are completely non toxic and they have no polyethylene or synthetics. They are also biodegradable and compostable and they are made by hand at a factory on the River Exe at Topsham in Devon, England.

Something that’s important to point out is that Naturalmat mattresses are naturally fire retardant, they comply with U.S., British and European Fire Regulations without using any chemical additives or fire retardants in their materials.

I received a Coco Mat mattress to review and I absolutely love that even their packaging is eco-friendly. All the packaging they use is 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable,  including the inner liner that is made from potato starch which is 100% compostable. Super cool!

The Coco Mat mattress is 52″ x 28″ and it offers gentle support, making it perfect for newborns and small babies.  Each crib mattress also comes with a free 100% organic waterproof mattress protector made with soft flannelette cotton and a very thin layer of breathable polyurethane laminated in between to make it waterproof while still allowing for ventilation and breathability.

I love our new Coco Mat mattress and I am grateful to companies like Naturalmat that offer natural options of products that are safe for our little ones and the planet. I can’t wait for our new baby to start sleeping on it.

The Coco Mat mattress retails for $399. And if you already have another mattress and can’t afford to replace it then they also have an organic Top Mat that you can use to turn your existing crib into an organic one. This is a more economical solution if you are on a budget and I highly recommend you check them out.
