Hipster glasses

Hipster Glasses made with the 3Doodler

Have you ever wished you could lift your pen off the paper and see your drawing come to life? Well now you can! The 3Doodler Pen is 3D printing pen that can be used to draw and create 3-D sketches and structures. It allows you to build many different shapes and items in 3D. The pen extrudes heated plastic that cools very quickly and solidifies into a strong stable structure.

We received a 3Doodler to try from DeSerres and I must say that it has been fun to play with it. The 3Doodler would make a wonderful gift for that hard-to-buy-for person in your gift giving list, and at just $109.99 it won’t break the bank.

3doodler pen

There are many ways 3Doodler can be used. 3Doodles can be created as flat forms and peeled off a piece of paper, as freestyle 3D objects, like drawing in the air, or in separate parts, ready to be joined together using the 3Doodler. The creative opportunities are endless.

There are some pretty amazing videos on Youtube with some cool structures created by some user, so many talented artist. Here’s the official 3Doodler video:

The device is very easy to use, just connect it to heat it up, add plastic, press a button and create! Using it is easy but mastering it takes some practice. I am definitively an amateur and my structures are nowhere as amazing as the ones in some videos and photos but I still love being able to draw 3D structures! My 4-year-old son watched the entire process as we created some cool hipster glasses and he loved the fact that a real tangible object was made. He asked his Dad to make some pirate swords for him and we spent the afternoon making some robots, pirate stuff and other fun decorations with him.

The tip of the device gets really really hot so the pen is not a toy and it is not suitable for children. My son was not able to draw with the pen but he enjoyed watching and the final product, he was so excited every time a project was finished. I noticed doing bigger projects required taking a few breaks as my hand was getting pretty tired from holding the pen and pushing the button down but the company offers a foot pedal you can purchase for around $20 to get a break, worth the investment if you are thinking about doing some bigger structures.

The 3Doodler makes creating art in 3D possible and you can do it at home. After a lot of practice you can also make more intricate objects and freestyle 3D objects forming cool structures. Stop by their gallery of user art on their site to see the amazing stuff people come up with. The pen can even be used to fix stuff around the house, create decorative art and more.
