playtex

playtexI feel so fortunate to have been able to successfully breastfeed both of my children. I also learned a very valuable lesson after my son refused to take a bottle: start ‘em early.

This time around, we introduced a bottle to my daughter after a month and thankfully she was able to switch from breast to pumped milk in the bottle effortlessly. Being able to go out and have other people feed her and put her to bed on occasion has made motherhood a lot less stressful for me. Especially since our daughter seemed to suffer from night time crying (every night from 9-11 pm, she would cry hysterically and inconsolably).

We didn’t really know much about bottles since our first experience with them was an exercise in futility. I bought and tried a number of different bottles, nipples, styles and sizes. Some of the bottles seemed to make her much gassier than others and some resulted in a whole lot of spit up. Luckily we found one that she seemed to do really well with and we stocked up. My amazing husband started giving her a nightly bottle so that I could get a break and he could have some daddy-daughter bonding time in the evening.

Playtex has introduced a new style of bottle that has a number of unique features that I haven’t come across before and really appreciated. The new Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners was specifically designed to reduce colic. You can see the soft liner slowly collapsing and preventing air from mixing with the milk or formula. This means less gas and less discomfort for your baby. The adjustable bottle angles for a semi-upright feeding position, which is often recommended by paediatricians to help prevent ear infections. The Nurser Bottle is compatible with all new Playtex nipples, which is helpful if your baby is particular to a specific shape of nipple (there are many) and is BPA free. I also really liked that it was ridiculously easy to clean as the liner (which is conveniently pre-sterilized) is simply popped out and tossed away. It would be a perfect bottle for travelling or on the go since there isn’t much to clean.

If you are in the market for an easy to use and easy to clean bottle this would be a great option. The New Playtex Nurser retails for approximately $12.95 CDN or $5.50 USD and up depending on the size and the liner refills retail for approximately $10.00 CDN or $7.00 USD for 100 liners and are available at major retailers and online at Amazon.ca and Amazon.com. The price point is on par with other bottles of this style with the minimal extra expense of the liners, but it is a small price to pay for the convenience and peace of mind that your baby is less likely to suffer from gas or colic.
