Blueberry/Spinach Smoothie Recipe

By Contributor Allison Baltzersen

TRUTH: Toddlers avoid dark leafy greens like my mother avoids night clubs. But there’s a work around – SMOOTHIES! Smoothies are the magically delicious way to slide all sorts of nutritious foods past your toddler. If you haven’t added veggies to fruit smoothies before, give this recipe a try.

Toddler-Approved Blueberry/Spinach Smoothie

Yield: 3 cups of smoothie

Ingredients

  • Base Ingredients:
  • 2 cups milk (cow, almond, soy, whatevs)
  • 1 cup packed fresh baby spinach
  • 1 banana (spotty is best)
  • ¾ cup frozen blueberries
  • Additional Ingredients:
  • 1 scoop nutritional supplement (Raw Meal, Vega, etc)
  • 1 tsp carob or raw cocoa powder (the organic healthy stuff)
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Instructions

In a blender, mix the base ingredients together until smooth. You can stop there if you want. I promise you won’t be able to taste any spinach with the fruit in there. If you feel frisky and want to pack in extra nutrition, throw in any or all of the additional ingredients. Enjoy!
