Both my boys have been asking to watch Coco for weeks. They both saw the trailer a while back and got really excited about it, so they were over the moon once the movie came out on Blu-ray.

Coco is the new Disney/Pixar film that explores the Mexican cultural traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead. The award-winning movie, tells the story of a 12-year-old aspiring musician’s extraordinary journey to the magical land of his ancestors.

The film celebrates the importance of family, honoring your ancestors and following your dreams, and the Blu-ray/DVD includes extensive extras with fun for the whole family.

Coco is colourful, beautifully animated and filled with music. I have to say that both my boys (ages 4 and 7) loved it. Something important to mention is that since Coco deals with topics like death, and losing family members, the film can be a bit sad and even dark in some parts. I don’t think it was a scary movie, but be prepared to answer your child’s questions about life and death, what happens after you die and how other cultures and religions see death.

I actually shed a tear or two while watching the movie so be sure to get a box of kleenex ready by the couch if you are known to cry watching sad movies.

Even though the film is filled with skeletons and spirits, most of them are friendly and not scary. I like that in general the movie showed the importance of family, loving your family, gratitude and of course, never giving up and following your dreams.

Coco is available digitally in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and 4K Ultra HD,™ Blu-ray,™ DVD and On-Demand now.
