Young kids love to experiment. It’s just in their nature to explore and learn through doing. My preschool class loves science more than anything (and it helps that it’s one of my favorite things to do with them). We were all very excited when I got a chance to review “Kitchen Science Lab for Kids” by Liz Heinecke.

This book is filled with 52 fantastic experiments you can do with your kids. There are tons that can be done with smaller children and some that a geared for older kids. I loved the science terms in the book and the kiddos loved saying big words as we were conducting our experiments. The book is broken down into different categories of experiments to do with your kids.

I really like that every experiment was done with simple household items. This is a great way to show your children that science is all around you! I went through the whole book and landed on something I knew my class would LOVE. Our first experiment was Lab 24 the “Mad Scientist’s Green Slime”.

kids playing slimeThe green slime is a super easy experiment made with glue, water, food coloring and Borax. That’s it! When everything is mixed together it makes this rubbery slime concoction that the kids can’t get enough of. It’s great for sensory play for young kids. They love stretching it and watching it slide down containers. We decided to make a batch of purple slime and a batch of orange. The recipe makes a decent size amount of what my class called “goop”.

The author, Liz Heinecke, has a love for science. After working in molecular biology research, she decided to be a stay at home mom. She started her website Kitchen Pantry Scientist where you can find more of her great experiments.

I loved doing this review because I believe it’s never to early to start exposing your kids to science and learning. It’s a great time to foster their creativity and love of learning. It’s also a great way to spend time as a family and create fantastic memories.

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are 100 percent my own.
