dyson DC78

Imaging using a vacuum cleaner that doesn’t need to have filters or bags washed or replaced. One that is so efficient that it experiences no loss of suction. Enter the newly released Dyson Cinetic™ DC78 Turbinehead Animal featuring the new Dyson Cinetic technology.  The DC78 comes with 54 Dyson Cinetic™ cyclones that have high frequency oscillating tips that vibrate. This prevents the cyclone aperture from clogging. They are so efficient at dust separation that no filter maintenance is required and there is no loss of suction.

Bagged vacuums usually lose suction because the bag pores clog and block air flow, and most bagless vacuums use inefficient cyclones to separate dirt and dust from the air. Dust that isn’t captured passes onto the filter – clogging it.  To prevent loss of suction, you need to regularly wash or replace the filter, filters are expensive and most people don’t have the time or forget to wash them regularly. I must admit I am one of those people, I can’t remember the last time I washed my old vacuum’s filter!

I was recently given the chance to review the Dyson Cinetic™ DC78 Turbinehead Animal just as my old vacuum cleaner stopped working, it was really perfect timing and I have heard so many great things about Dyson products that I jumped at the chance to try one.

After unboxing the product I noticed how modern and sleek the DC78 looks, it looks very different from my old vacuum cleaner, very futuristic! I was also amazed by the cool attachments that were included in the package. My old vacuum cleaner had 2 simple attachments so it was great to see dedicated tools for cleaning hard to reach places around the home.  The main attachment is the beltless turbine head, it uses a dual bristle system that has both stiff nylon bristles for carpet and anti-static carbon fibre filaments for hard surfaces. It also features self-adjusting brush floats to give maximum suction to clean different surfaces without having to change attachments. Included are also an articulating hard floor tool, a stiff bristle brush, a turbine tool that is a tangle free solution for removing pet hair from upholstery and a groom tool that allows you to vacuum away your pet’s hair straight into the bin.

I personally like the size of the DC78’s dirt collection bin, I don’t have to empty it often. I am also a fan of the push to release hygienic bin emptying method, no need to get my hands dirty when emptying the bin anymore.  Another feature I really like is the DC78’s long reach, its cable, hose and wand provide a total reach of 10 metres. We have a small house and I find I don’t have to plug/unplug a million times to reach most rooms. A big plus!

Something else that is great about the DC78 is that it traps allergens and expels cleaner air. With both a husband and a toddler who suffer from asthma this is something I definitively look for when purchasing a new vacuum cleaner.

This was my very first time trying a Dyson vacuum and I must say that the highly rated Dyson Ball™ technology is pretty impressive.  The DC78 has a low centre of gravity and is very easy to pull without snagging on corners or the carpet pile. The central steering system, articulating chassis and central pivot point for negotiating tight turns and circumnavigating furniture are incredible.

Overall, the DC78 is a pretty impressive vacuum cleaner. It is tough and durable and built to last, made from ABS polycarbonate – the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets! The DC78 vacuum cleaner is great at “sucking” dirt and my floors are spotless now after vacuuming, perfect when you have a baby crawling everywhere in the house and a toddler making big messes at the same time. At least he can now help clean the mess himself, the DC78 is super easy to use! Here’s him cleaning up some crackers he spilled:
