My toddler loves to paint right now; really she just loves any activity that results in a huge mess. She has also become a huge Disney fan, and we wanted to make something special for another Disney Princess fan we know. However, we wanted to make something different than what is usually available. We came up with a more modern picture using just straight lines.

To start I gathered together a small canvas, and some washi tape as I couldn’t find any painters tape (either will work for this). After looking at a picture of the Princess who we wanted our painting to be after I figured out my design and placed the tape to section off what I wanted the painting to look like. There is a lot of creative freedom to this part with how you want to lay out the design.

Once all of this was ready, and my daughter was in her painting smock I gave her the brush and did give her some guidance as to which colour went in which section. Now, my daughter is still very young as she is under the age of two. If needed, you can do hand over hand to help guide your child as they paint, or you could tape off more of the canvas each time so that they only can paint one colour in one section. Let that dry, and then retape over top of what was painted and work in anther section. The downside to that way is that it will take longer.

The paint may not be on perfect, and that is fine. This is a child’s art piece. Let it turn out how they want it to look. Maybe they will decided to finger paint a portion, and use the paint brush for other spots. After everything has dried peel off the tape and this will reveal your finished project. If you prefer the look with the black lines, you can easily go back and re-tape so that your kid can paint in the black lines. We liked ours with the white of the canvas showing through.

This painting project doesn’t take long but you are left with a gorgeous, hand made Disney Princess art piece. How amazing would several of these look in a little girls room? The only supplies you need is a canvas, some paint, and some tape! Can you guess which princess our painting is designed after?
