We were recently sent the new FUJIFILM Finepix XP140 digital camera to review. The XP140 is the latest model in the XP series, and it features amazingly high-quality movies and images, including 4K (15fps) shooting.

I love how lightweight the XP140 is and the fact that it is waterproof, shockproof, freeze proof, and dustproof. Making it the perfect camera to take with you when going on an adventure, or as a great first camera for a child.

I gave this camera to my ten-year-old, and he loves it. He has been capturing so many fun videos and photos already, he even took some cool underwater videos in the pool with it.

Lightweight and Rugged Body

I love how lightweight and compact the camera is. It is easy to carry it with you, in your purse, or your pocket. The XP140 features a rugged body, and it is waterproof to 82ft/25m, freezeproof to 14°F/-10°C, shockproof to withstand drops from 5.9ft/1.8m, and dustproof to keep out sand and other foreign particles. The XP 140 also has a 3″ LCD screen with anti-reflective coating that makes it easy to shoot in bright sunlight or underwater.

A great camera to use outdoors and to take on vacation, to the beach, when going for a hike, or any other fun outdoor adventure. I am also not super worried about my son carrying it around with him everywhere since I know it has been built to withstand the rough and tumbles of outdoor adventures.

Advanced SR Auto Mode

One of our favourite settings for this camera is the Advanced SR Auto Mode, this feature detects your subject and automatically optimizes all the settings to take the perfect image. This mode makes it super easy to grab and shoot without having to mess around with any settings, making the camera super user friendly for children. The camera also focuses on the subject’s eyes automatically to give you beautiful portraits.

The camera also features a variety of self-timer modes that can help you to capture the perfect photo. For example, SMILE mode releases the shutter when it detects you are smiling, and FACE AUTO SHUTTER mode releases the shutter when it detects you are facing the camera.

Image and Video Quality

The camera records amazing full HD movie (1080p/60fps) or 4K (15fps) videos, with scene recognition, noise cancellation and wind filter.

You can use High-Speed Video mode to create a four times slow-motion effect or create an action-packed time-lapse recording. So many fun settings to get creative with.

The XP140 also features a 5x optical zoom lens with added Digital Zoom for a zoom range of 10x,  to allow you to get close to your subject, and a  with a wide-angle lens starting at 28mm.

The camera has a 16.4 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, producing beautiful photos, even when shooting underwater or in low light environments.

One of our favourite modes is the Continuous Shooting Mode. You can capture up to 15 frames per second burst shooting! So fun!

Battery Life

The manual indicates that you can take about 240 images with a fully charged battery before the battery runs out.  You can easily recharge the battery by plugging it in using the provided USB cable. I find that my son usually goes for about 5-7 days taking photos and videos daily before he has to charge the battery.

FUJIFILM Camera Remote app

I love that you can pair your smartphone with the camera to control the camera’s settings from your phone. You can take photos remotely via your phone, use it as a remote, and more. The first thing you do, once you set up the camera, is synched it with your phone, after your pair it, then it automatically synchronizes your location, time zone, and date. So there is no time spent adding any of that info manually. I loved the simplicity.

You can also wirelessly share images from the camera to your phone, allowing you to upload your favourites to social media, print them, etc.

We are loving the FUJIFILM XP140; this is a super compact and tough little camera. It has been fun for my boys to have a camera to capture their summer with, and I love that I can transfer their photos to my phone in seconds, wirelessly. If you are looking for a camera that takes high-quality photos and 4K video, and that is built to last and to withstands drops and lots of water, look no further.
