There is nothing more fun than a child’s first bike, to me it brings back lots of great childhood memories. I think handle bar streamers, warm summer nights riding around the cul-de-sac and of course the bumps and bruises that come along with learning to ride. When I think first bike I always think about those little red and white tricycles with the rear step, they are just so cute and classic. That being said when we had the chance to receive a Radio Flyer 4 in 1 Trike to review I was beyond excited. The Radio Flyer 4 in 1 Trike is the perfect way to introduce your child to riding a bike. The trike is able to accommodate children from the age of 9 months up to the age of 5 years. It can easily convert from an infant trike, to a steering trike, a learn to ride trike and then a classic trike.

The trike came unassembled in a medium sized box and the box itself was fairly light. I was able to carry it myself upstairs onto the main floor of our townhouse to build it. I normally would let my husband build something like this but I wanted to see how it came together from start to finish. Assembling the trike was fairly easy and I was able to put it together during my daughters nap. The instructions that came with it were detailed and easy to follow. I did find it a bit tough to tighten a few of the bolts but with a bit of determination I was able to get everything tight enough.

When my daughter saw it in our living room she became very excited and wanted to get in it right away. There was no hesitation from her as I placed her in the trike and the moment we started moving she was giggling with delight. The trike offers a different view than our stroller does, so I think that was part of the reason she thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn’t long after we started walking that she was leaning forward and grabbing a hold of the handle bars. When I assembled the trike I placed the seat on the middle setting, as she does have fairly long legs. She doesn’t quite reach the pedals on this setting but on the level up I feel she would just get her legs caught in them as she doesn’t understand to pedal yet. As she isn’t pedaling yet the trike does make a bit of a ticking sound as you use it. It isn’t overly loud and I found I quickly forgot about it. I found the trike very easy to steer, even steering with one hand while walking our dog was comfortable.

I really like the removable wrap around tray, not only does it help to keep your child safely in the seat but it offers a drink and snack holder. With features like the parent storage handle and the storage compartment on the back I could easily take this on walks in place of my stroller. There is enough storage space for my wallet, phone, keys, water bottle, snacks and a drink for my daughter as well as room for a few diapers and wipes. As the trike is more interactive for my daughter I could see myself using it for short walks around the neighborhood in place of our stroller. The three point harness was easy to use and the straps are adjustable and easy to tighten or loosen. The sunshade provides the perfect amount of protection against the sun or rain and is very easy to remove. The adult steer and stroll handle is adjustable, both myself (I’m 5’6″) and my husband (he’s 6’3″) found it comfortable to use. The handle is also easy to remove, making the trike very easy to transport in ones vehicle.

Overall we have really enjoyed using the trike so far and I think my daughter is only going to grow to love it more as she is able to use it on her own. To watch a video of the trike in use click here .
