Kiwi Crate

Kiwi Crate, the award-winning service that delivers themed crates to your door every month is now available in Canada.

This innovative subscription service for children ages 3-7 is known in the US for delivering a monthly crate to families that contains all of the materials they need for 2-3 hand-on projects that focus on arts, crafts, science or imaginative play. With no need to go shopping for materials or pre-planning activities.

Kiwi Crate Music

All Kiwi Crate projects are designed by real parents and tested by kids. Past Kiwi crate themes include Gardening, Space, Colours and more.

We received their “Making Music” crate and we were thrilled to find materials to make a xylophone and two rhythm bells. Our son loves music and having two fun projects to work on together was lots of fun. We finished both projects the same day we received the crate in the mail!

We liked that each project came organized and with a helpful handbook with easy to follow instructions (with images and text). We also enjoyed the high quality of the materials they sent.

My 2 1/2 year old and I worked together in both projects. He was able to do the colouring and decorating mostly on his own and we did the stringing of the beads and bells together. The crates are designed for children 3-7 so I am sure older kids could do more steps independently.

For the first project we made the two rhythm bells and he enjoyed playing with them. At StrongStart classes his teacher uses similar bells to let the kids know it’s clean up time before snack and he started running around the house singing the cleanup song and shaking the bells after we made them.  I will be using the bells during cleanup time at home now!

Kiwi Crate Music Projects

For the second project we made the xylophone. Something I really enjoyed was having all of the materials we needed provided, including the glue dots and rubber bands. It is really relaxing to sit down and work on a craft together with my child without having to leave the table searching for missing materials.

He really loves playing the xylophone and he likes singing songs while playing it. I love the musical theme and I am glad we had a chance to try out this crate.

The crate also comes with “Explore More” activity cards that give you more craft ideas and allow you to expand the theme of the month. A few days later we picked a card and made a flute with straws and that was a fun craft.  We are looking forward to making some of the other fun projects in the upcoming weeks.

Kiwi Crate projects are designed to spark creativity and curiosity and to encourage key developmental skills, such as problem solving, creative expression, gross and fine motor skills, and communication. Plus, along with each crate, the Kiwi Crate website provides excellent online resources and ideas for additional discovery each month.

Kiwi Crate subscriptions are available for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a year option. A sibling option is also available. At $19.95 per month (plus $6.95 for shipping for Canada) subscriptions are billed monthly and may be cancelled at any time.  Find additional information and subscribe online at http://www.kiwicrate.com/.
