SodaStream Genesis

We love fizzy water and we treat ourselves to a bottle of soda water every once in a while. I would love to purchase soda water more often but I don’t like going through so many plastic bottles at home. Looking for a solution I found the Sodastream Genesis System.

The Sodastream Genesis soda maker carbonates water in a BPA-free, reusable one-liter bottle in less than 30 seconds, without electricity or batteries, and with no clean-up. All you have to do is load the carbonator into the soda-maker, fill the reusable bottle with regular tap or filtered water and place it in the soda maker. Finally pump the button a few times to add the fizz and you will have sparkling water. It is so easy!

I love that it takes seconds to make soda water and I can reseal the bottle and keep it in the fridge for up to a week.

I like that the reusable BPA-free carbonating bottle is not made with any polycarbonate materials or substances that produce phthalates or PCBs. Using reusable bottles also means that  less plastic is manufactured and less plastic is wasted. I love that!

Sodastream also offers all-natural flavor essences for making lightly flavored seltzer or sparkling water called MyWater Unsweetened. With flavors like Lemon Lime, Raspberry and Mint there is really  something for everyone.

Sodastream also offers a big selection of naturally flavored soda mixes.  They offer regular, diet, energy and caffeine-free flavors of syrup (sold separately). Each 500ml soda mix bottle makes the equivalent of 12 liters of soda (about 33 cans). We received a sampler with some of their mixes and I really liked their Ginger Ale. All of their regular soda mixes contain no high fructose corn syrup, while the diet soda mixes contain no aspartame.

I find that the Genesis Sodastream system is wonderful for entertaining. You can make a selection of different drinks in seconds and please everyone at your party.  I recommend purchasing a couple of extra carbonating bottles to be able to make multiple drinks and store them at the same time.  We keep a bottle of fizzy water in the fridge at all times now.

SodaStream is also an “Active Green” company, meaning that consumers actively minimize their CO2 footprint when using the SodaStream system. The more the system is used on a daily basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. This differs from “Passive Green” brands, which use green-friendly production processes, but their products are not inherently helping you save on your daily footprint.

We love our Sodastream Genesis system and I recommend you check out their website to find more information about their systems and sodamixes.  You can purchase your own Genesis system ($129.99) here.
