kitchen curry masterIf I could only eat one ethnic cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be Indian.  It is one cuisine that knocks it out of the park with flavorful vegan and vegetarian dishes.  I never leave an Indian buffet hungry.  I have always wanted to learn how to make the dishes at home but have been intimidated by the spice combos, so jumped at the chance to try the Kitchen Curry Master Set spice kit and cookbook that simplifies the art of curry mixing.

kitchen curry master When the Kitchen Curry Master Set arrived, I was surprised by how heavy the box was.  The kit includes about two pounds of spices, a gorgeous and sturdy metal spice box which holds eight metal cups for each spice and a beautiful fully-illustrated Simple Cooking Guide with easy to follow recipes showcasing many curry combinations.

The instructions inside the Kitchen Curry Master Set say to prep the kit by rinsing and wiping dry all of the metal cups, then emptying the spices from their sealed plastic pouches into the cups.

TIP: Put the spices into the metal container in the same order as the diagram in the cookbook.  This will make identifying the spices easier when you are scooping them into your cooking pot. I didn’t do this initially and got confused between the garam masala and ground cumin.  I didn’t ruin my dish by getting them wrong, but I was close.  It’s really easiest for spice novices to just match the diagram.

We were one side dish short for our Christmas dinner, so  I decided to whip up a batch of the Cabbage, Peas & Potato Curry from the Simple Cooking Guide.  It turned out great and it curiously complemented our shepherd’s pie main dish.

Two days later, I made a batch of the Chicken Korma from the cookbook, swapping in chick peas for the chicken.  It was DELICIOUS and came pretty darn close to a dish I frequently order at our Indian delivery place in Vancouver, BC.  Words cannot describe how proud I am of myself for mastering the art of curry mixing thanks to this kit.

The kit really does make mixing curry dishes SIMPLE.  The kit also looks gorgeous and makes a fantastic gift for any foodie.  The quality of the product completely matches the price (on sale right now for $59.99 USD + free shipping), and the spices can be purchased separately to refill when the kit gets low.  Know someone who already has a Kitchen Curry Master set? Consider  getting them a gift card so they can order refill spices!
