Newborn Nesting With #2

From the moment I found out I was pregnant with my first son, I started to organize things around the house, setting up his nursery almost three months before he was born and buying all of the new mom “must haves”.

Nesting was very different once I was pregnant with baby #2. I had many products and pieces of furniture that I was able to reuse and I didn’t have to purchase many of the things I did with my first. Besides I was more experienced and I knew what I really needed and what I could live without.

With my second I set up his bassinet just a week before he was born and instead of worrying about his “nursery decor” I worried more about sterilizing and cleaning my pump and setting up a comfortable nursing area.

We purchased our first son’s crib, rocking chair and ottoman from Sears and we are now using the same three pieces for #2.  I haven’t set up his crib yet but the rocking chair and ottoman are being used daily. We also purchased a Fisher-Price swing at Sears for our first that was stored in the garage and that’s used with our second baby now (picture above).

I love being able to reuse baby furniture as much as possible, no extra waste or extra money spent.

Baby clothes are also great to pass from one child to the next, especially having two little boys! Sears offers a wonderful program named Kidvantage that features lifetime wear out warranty on children’s apparel. It means that as long as a child in the family continues to wear the same size Sears will replace the item if it wears out. I love this!

This year, Sears is also celebrating their Newborn Nesting event again! From April 18th – May 1st, customers can earn a cash card, when they spend the following amount in the Baby’s Room:

  • Spend $200-$299.99 on nursery furniture, baby gear, and infant fashions and get a $25 cash card
  • Spend $300-$399.99 on nursery furniture, baby gear, and infant fashions and get a $50 cash card
  • Spend $400 or more on nursery furniture, baby gear and infant fashions and get a $100 cash cardThe offer is valid in-stores and on – which is convenient for those in communities that haven’t quite broken into spring yet : ). Cash cards are redeemable May 2 – 21st.

  1. Totally different for me as well! I don’t have time for nesting with baby #3, so busy with the kids and you are right I have a lot of things I have ready from his sisters so that’s helpful!

  2. Omg, your little one is so adorable! I always liked shopping at Sears for my baby needs, too.

  3. Beautiful baby! Great incentives! You’re going to be buying it anyways might as well get some money back from it. That’s great.

  4. re-using items is so important, it really helps the environment. thanks for the insights!

  5. an adorable photo. I found too that it was handy being able to reuse a lot of stuff for my 2nd child. My 2nd was a girl so different clothes were needed later on but I was lucky and got a lot of them as presents. By child number 7 a lot of clothes were no longer usable but furniture etc was thankfully.

  6. with baby #2 I had pretty much everything so I didn’t have to worry about buying anything other than the essentials, it’s great that Sears has that program for the kids clothes, I imagine it comes in handy for many families

  7. My daughter came early so I wasn’t really prepared. In end I had to focus on what I needed and what was critical.

  8. awww such an adorable photo, thanks for sharing!

  9. Any Mother of two or more babies will relate to your approach to both births. I guess, since the baby and Mom survived the first time, we have more confidence in our nurturing skills and we have a better idea of what to expect. Your second little fellow looks like this brother but with distinct look of his own. He is a beautiful and healthy looking baby. Kudos to all Nursing mothers.

  10. What a fantastic photo, a beautiful child and he even has a smile for us :-). Having had 7 children (4 girls and 3 boys) I’d say it’s essential that clothes and furniture are reused. Bringing up children is a very expensive job, if everything was bought new each time there’d be no college fund left for them to enjoy 😉

  11. Just a beautiful photo, thanks for sharing with us
