Summer Road Trip Plans

summer

Can you believe the school year is almost over? I personally can’t believe my son’s preschool is over in two weeks and summer is officially starting this weekend!

This will be our first summer as a family of four and although we don’t have any big air travel plans for the summer we are talking about renting a cabin somewhere and spending some time away from everything. We are also hoping to visit Portland, Oregon for a weekend. I can’t wait for some relaxing fun in the sun with my family.

We have been checking out a couple of islands in B.C. and I must say that there are so many amazing places right in our own backyard. Perfect for road trips!

Traveling with two kids is a bit different from traveling with just one but both of our children love car rides and have no issues being in their car-seats making car travel totally enjoyable. I usually pack a bag of goodies to keep my toddler entertained when going on longer car rides. Packing a colouring book, crayons, little books to read, stickers, and small toys is a must. He has a lot of little Kinder® Surprise® toys including a bunch of the little cars and he can spend hours playing with those, I am packing a bag of those for him as well.

I am also definitively packing a couple of Kinder® Surprise® eggs with new toys to share but only for our Canadian adventures. Kinder® Surprise® eggs are not allowed to cross the border so be cautious if you plan to get some too when traveling to the USA.

Planning any road trips for the summer? Where are you going? Any places you recommend in B.C. or must see places in Portland?

I can’t believe the school year is almost over!! We will be driving to Ontario then to Quebec and back to Alberta this summer. Bringing Kinder Eggs is a great idea! I didn’t know that they weren’t allowed to cross the border, good to know!

Every year we go up to Parksville on Vancouver Island. We live in Victoria, but it really feels like a far away destination! The beach is goreous!

We’ve been talking about a road trip to Alberta to visit family, but as of yet we have no plans. Would definitely be interesting…. myself, hubby, our 16 yr old and 22 month old.
Kinder eggs a must. For the 16 yr old lol….we still have a bucket of all his kinder toys from 10 yrs ago.

Now that we are in Alberta, road trips seem like the norm. In Portland, I would say visit the food carts. One we loved was The Big Egg…go early…limited seating plus they take a while. Along the coast will be fun for the toddler plus with baby in a carrier…it will be great. Also, there are sea lions along the Oregon coast which I think your toddler will love seeing..it’s in the caves…
As much as we want to go back to the island from Vancouver, the ferry cost for the car plus reservation has turned us away! We want to go on a road trip back to Vancouver though…miss home!

Sounds like a nice getaway. I am not near Portland so no help there! The cabin would be a great getaway.

Vacationing with children can create lots of memories. whether you are camping, sharing a cabin or trailer. Always have something for the kids to do because boredom can set in quick

What a great idea, when things are starting to get hairy, stop the car and blow bubbles for a while, so you add 15 minutes to the trip but you save your sanity

We used to take lots of things to occupy our children on road trips (some of which were extremely long drives). I love the photo with the bubbles, that’s perfect, kids do so love blowing bubbles don’t they. I always wanted to make one of those huge bubbles but so far haven’t found the right stuff.

Instead of stopping to smell the roses, stop to blow bubbles

I bet your road trip was great. I would love to travel from one end of Canada to the other because we have a lot of beauty up here.
