As a new mom I live a very busy life. From the time my son wakes up in the morning until the time we go to bed at night I am always working on something and going from one activity to the next.  There are very few times during the day when I can sit down and close my eyes and just relax in a meditative state.

I really enjoy those few minutes of my day and I try very hard to not forget about them, but it is difficult to remember without some sort of reminder or visualization. The Jizo pendant and necklace from Jizo & Chibi I recently received has been really helping me remember about my daily mediation and I am extremely grateful about that.

Valerie Johns is the designer behind Jizo & Chibi and her jewelry is based on two main images that are used in her pieces:
  • She created the image of Chibi while working as a psychotherapist.  Chibi’s childlike image provided her a personal outlet to process the traumatic experiences her patients shared in their sessions.
  • She saw Jizo for the first time while hiking to a temple in Kyoto and later again in a Hiroshima garden.  Jizo Bodhisattava is the protector of all people but most of all the protector of children.  Jizo is revered throughout Asia as the guardian of women, children and travelers.
Inspired by her travels and while embracing her inner child she painted images of Jizo and eventually of Jizo holding Chibi to his chest, where he is often depicted carrying a pearl or precious stone to light the darkness.  Isn’t her story beautiful? Her website also has a “Meditations” section that I just love.  It really reminds you to take that time for yourself to notice your breath and to remember to smile.

I now wear my beautiful necklace daily and use it as a reminder to take a minute to slow down and meditate. Interesting enough I have noticed my son really likes to touch the Jizo and so far he has not been pulling the necklace so I am o.k. to wear it everyday.
I love gold necklaces and pendants and this piece is beautiful. I enjoy all the little details and what it represents to me.  All of Jizo & Chibi’s pieces are beautiful and inspirational and they are made by hand using no caustic chemicals, just love and kindness.  I recommend you take a look at their website to learn more.
