Tropical Matcha-Colada Smoothie Recipe

matcha-colada

Nothing takes the edge off a sweltering summer afternoon like an icy cold tropical smoothie. Here’s a super simple recipe for a delicious and healthy smoothie that tastes awesome and sweeps you instantly off to a Caribbean beach with a flick of the blender.

If you are new to matcha powder, it’s a high quality ground green tea that is packed with antioxidants and gives everything it touches a distinct green tint. A little goes a long way, so start with just a teaspoon in this recipe.

Tropical Matcha-Colada Smoothie Recipe

Yield: MAKES 3-4 CUPS OF SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:

1 can of coconut water
2 cups frozen pineapple
3 TBS lemon or lime juice
1 tsp matcha powder
1 scoop vanilla meal replacement or protein powder (optional)

Directions:

Simply combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth. The measurements are all flexible – if you want it thinner, add more coconut water (or plain water). If your pineapple is room temp, simply add a few ice cubes to the mix to chill the temp and make the texture slightly slushier. If you want to go ultra-tropical, try adding a few chunks of mango, papaya or a squirt of key lime juice. Enjoy!

I like using Matcha powder, but have to admit that I haven’t liked any brand of coconut water I’ve tried.

Yum! This is brilliant, I’ve never thought of using matcha tea in a smoothie before. We keep frozen banana in the freezer for smoothies, so I’m thinking a matcha banana smoothie would be pretty amazing as well!
