Marcus & Marcus Dinnerware {Product Review}

By Jen Shragge

I recently read an article that references a study which showed that the chemical compounds that are being used to replace BPA in products may in fact be more detrimental than BPA. It was disconcerting to say the least. We have swapped almost all our plastics for metal, glass and silicone but I had a few holdouts in the cupboard that I immediately tossed. It can be challenging to find practical and affordable children’s eating utensils, storage containers and general dinnerware that are completely safe and non-toxic. Fortunately, Marcus & Marcus has created a whole line of baby, toddler and big kid friendly eating accessories that are BPA-free, PVC-free and phthalate-free and made from food-grade silicone rubber.

We test drove the Kids Chopsticks, the Baby Spoon and the Collapsible Bowl. I had the big kid try out the chopsticks since there was no way the toddler was going to get any food into her mouth with them and he was able to use them very easily. He loves sushi so I can see us using these pretty regularly, especially since the traditional plastic chopstick connectors for kids really don’t work well at all. I love that the chopsticks come apart from the connecting piece and that they are dishwasher safe.

Little miss tried out the bowl and spoon and we both agreed that they were awesome. She has been using a spoon for a while now, but I find that she often ends up holding it upside down and most of the food falls off before it makes it to her mouth. She didn’t seem to have that problem with this spoon so that was a major win for me. The bowl is probably my favourite travel bowl now since it can be collapsed when it is empty and that makes for very easily storage and stashing on the go. You do need to be mindful that it doesn’t squish what is in it when tossed in a bag but it is a trade off that I am happy to accept.

Marcus & Marcus also makes very cute bibs as well as bamboo fibre dinnerware which make their collection quite well rounded and I believe there is something there for everyone. The chopsticks retail for $9.99 USD, the bowl for $15.99 USD and the spoon for $26.99 for a 3 pack. Given how expensive metal containers can be and that their lids are still plastic, I think these are fantastic options. Marcus & Marcus products are widely available online and at select bricks and mortal retailers. If you are looking for a safe alternative to plastic feeding wear, Marcus & Marcus probably has a product for you.

  5. A beautiful set for children, love the colour too. What a shame that the new chemical compounds that are being used to replace BPA in products might very well be just as bad if not worse.

  6. Love that they have chop sticks!
