B-Sensible Crib Sheet {Product Review}

Getting up in the middle of the night with a baby isn’t particularly fun. Getting up with a baby in the middle of the night only to find they have had a major diaper leak and coming to terms with the fact that you need to strip the bed and remake it is downright horrifying. Realizing that said liquid has stained your mattress is enough to make mommy or daddy lose their marbles. It usually only happens once. Then you come to your senses and get a mattress protector to go under the crib sheet. However, if you’re a risk-taker like yours truly, you may only own one mattress protector. This becomes a huge gamble of course when the sheets are in the wash and baby needs to go to sleep. Many a night I had a baby sleeping on only a crib sheet because the mattress protector was in the wash. Luckily, or perhaps amazingly, I managed to escape disaster.

A very clever and practical product is now available that makes this issue somewhat moot. B-Sensible Baby, a Spanish company, created a fitted crib sheet and mattress protector all in one. What sets this product apart is that it is waterproof, breathable and hypoallergenic. It is made of a fibre called Tencel®, which is more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen. This fibre is ideal for bedding as it is warm in winter but cool in summer and ideal for sensitive skin. It is also made from wood, and therefore a natural fibre, which may be important to some parents. What also drew me to this product is that it is made in Europe. This seems to be a rarity these days, especially when it comes to baby products and I personally feel that quality and safety standards are simply higher in Europe and this is definitely a selling feature for me.

I found that the fitted sheet was very generous and fit the mattress we have perfectly, which is handy since cribs are a pain to make. It is fully machine washable and can go right in the dryer with your other sheets. It washed beautifully and was nice and soft out of the dryer. There are 8 colour options available which means that there is a sheet to match any nursery décor. The pink I received was a perfect match for the baby’s room and I suspect the grey would have been as well.

The baby complied with my review of this item by promptly tossing her cookies all over the crib as soon as I lay her down for her nap after I put the sheet on. I didn’t notice of course until I picked her up after the nap and while she smelled of that lovely baby vomit smell, she wasn’t damp, which was a huge plus. I removed the sheet and nothing had soaked past the barrier and back in the wash it went.

With an MSRP of $46.00 (USD) this sheet is right on par with most other high end fitted crib sheets. When you factor in that a mattress protector would run anywhere from $10.00-$20.00 on top of the price of a regular crib sheet, the price of the B-Sensible sheet is actually a pretty great deal. This crib sheet saves you from having to wash two separate sets of sheets and who wouldn’t want to cut down on their laundry load?

    Love that it breathes (not common with waterproof sheets); wish I had something like this when the boys were little.

    I just love the idea of a fitted crib sheet and mattress protector all in one. That would have been ideal for my oldest as he had to do without diapers for a fortnight as a baby – it was dreadful!
