As parents, we have many values we want to instill in our children. One of those is thinking of others and the larger world beyond our little piece of it.
A great way to accomplish this is through pen pals. We started this year after making new friends in Colorado, but it could be a cousin in another state, a family friend’s children or even a grandparent, aunt or uncle.
We like to send a few toys or trinkets along with a note handwritten by Brady.
Now, I don’t know about anyone else’s kids, but getting my boy to sit down and write a letter can be a battle at times. When I brought out these fun, kid-friendly Finish Me note cards from Limemark it really helped motivate him.
Here’s more from their site:
“For those who want to add a custom touch to their cards but need their creativity fueled, check out our Finishme cards. Finishme cards give kids a great starting point and they simply need to add a splash of colour or even just a message inside. Use your knowledge of colouring techniques to add texture and perspective or go wild with collage / glitter – whatever your heart desires to create your art card masterpiece.“
Brady was immediately drawn to the robot card. He knew just exactly who should get it. Another one he deemed “more girly” and chose for a female cousin’s birthday. I liked that he could so clearly visualize who should get each one.
I enjoyed the smaller, less intimidating shape of the cards as well as the bright, vibrant colors and cool patterns and pictures.
I have to admit, while Brady enjoyed picking the cards and writing in them, I could not entice him to color them. It’s just not his favorite thing to do.
A child who likes art and coloring would enjoy them even more. They can put their special mark on a card and turn it into keepsake artwork for family and friends.
Check out their Christmas card selection on their Etsy store, great for the holiday season!
