Teaching Cash Register for kids

I had the opportunity to check out some of the Top Ten 2012 Gold Start Award Winner toys of the Neighborhood Toy Stores of Canada (NETS), including the Teaching Cash Register with Canadian Currency from Learning Resources.

The NETS annual Gold Star Award products are toys that are tested by real kids and parents, and they have been described as ‘a great find’ and ‘the perfect fit’. These toys and games earn recognition based on their ‘exceptional’ play value, durability and safety. They are the toys and games that kids continue to play with long after they are ‘new’.

The Teaching Cash Register from Learning Resources is a talking cash register that allows children to practice coin recognition, addition, subtraction and place value as they play.  There are 4 featured games that increase in difficulty depending on the players level.

We received the Canadian Currency version and I absolutely love how realistic the play money is.  They coins and bills look just like real money and my 2-year-old loves them. This is a great toy for pretend play and learning basic math and the names of the coins. The register “names” each one when they go in the coin slot and my son is learning to recognize them all thanks to this toy. I also love that the set includes a coupon and a credit card.

The built-in scanner and scale with realistic sounds make play time fun and exciting and the lights, sounds and voice messages are all great for interactive play.

I personally like that the cash register has an automatic shutoff setting to save on batteries. It also has volume control, perfect for those really really early mornings when our son wants to play with the register while other people sleep.

In general this is a fabulous toy for children. It is recommended for children 3+ and it is fun for all. Great toy for multiple children to play with because they can take turns buying and selling items. They will each get a chance to role play and practice paying for something and selling something. Be sure to check out Learning Resources for more information and to purchase a cash register.
