The Power of Imagination

policeman and firefighter costumes
Every once in a while I ask my 4-year-old what he wants to be when he grows up. His usual response is firefighter and/or police officer. He has costumes for both at home and he is often seen wearing them and pretend playing, he tells me he wants to help and protect people.

I love how at his age anything is possible, his imagination and ability to create is amazing. He runs around putting out imaginary fires all over the house and catching bad guys to keep the peace, so it comes as no surprise that one of his favourite TV shows right now is Fireman Sam. The Welsh animated children’s television series about a fireman called Sam and his fellow firefighters is a HUGE hit in this house.

Fireman Sam and some other similar children’s shows are available to stream now on Netflix Canada. I love shows that engage children and encourage them to create their own destiny. See some fun suggestions below:

1. Sid the Science Kid
2. SciGirls
3. Fireman Sam: To the Rescue
4. Bob the Builder: Building from Scratch

What do your little one’s dress up as at home? What’s their favourite TV show nowadays?

fantastic how his faces changes when he’s a policeman – I think this is probably the only photo of him that I’ve seen with such a serious face. Adorable.

My girl just started to really get into dressing up. Her Aunt bought her some princess outfits, but my girl insists she’s a ballerina all the time.

We are so lucky that we have great grandchildren-two on the Island, 2 in Nova Scotia and 2 in Alberta. Lucky for us, the Mom in Alberta loves to take pictures and put them on facebook. Her little girl likes to be a princess or a fairy. The boys on our Island like to run trains, and play with transformers. This time of their lives, when they engage in inventive play is so wonderful to see and enjoy.
