In this post, I’ll share some simple tips to help you organize your spice cupboard and make it easy to keep it organized long term.
I am embarrassed to admit my spice cupboard has been messy for a long time. This is because I didn’t have a system set up, and looking for a spice when cooking always took so long. As a result, I was not finding what I needed and getting frustrated all the time.
It was time to organize!
- Set up a system: The first thing you need to do is develop a system that works for you. I highly recommend looking at the space you have and finding some inexpensive ways to organize things. For example, you can use a 3-tier rack and/or a Lazy Susan to display your spices and organize them properly. Remember to measure your space before ordering any new racks or other organization systems.
Here is what worked for my kitchen. I got this 3-tier cabinet organizer to display my medium size spice jars.
Then I also ordered these non-skid Lazy Susan Turntables. I like that they are simple, easy to clean, and can fit many spices in each one. A Lazy Susan is such a great way to access everything you have with a simple touch.
- Do a big clean once a year: Check expiry dates, clean, and sort all your spices at least once a year. Of course, setting up a new system is the perfect time to do this, but taking the time to do this yearly will help you keep things fresh and organized long term.
- Leave most used spices on the front and easy to grab: When organizing your spices, set them up so that they are front and centre. Then, you can rotate them each season depending on the spices you use the most at that time of year. Some people also alphabetize their spices, so they can find them easily when searching for them.
I am so happy with how my spice cupboard looks like now. I can access all my spices easily, and they are ready when I am cooking. No more frustration!
Emptying the cupboard, cleaning it, and organizing everything using the organizers I purchased took me less than 30 minutes. It was such an inexpensive and simple solution.
How organized is your spice cupboard? Do you do a big clean once a year as well?
