Below we are sharing some tips to help you keep your New Year’s Resolutions this time around, it all starts with choosing those resolutions carefully. Keep reading to get started!

Tips for Keeping Your New Year's Resolutions

  • Don’t rush: Take your time while writing your resolutions, don’t rush! Plan ahead and avoid writing them on New Year’s Eve. Keep a notebook with ideas and go back to it every other day to see if you can think of something new.
  • Make a realistic plan: When writing your resolutions make attainable goals and think about making a realistic plan to help you follow through. The more details, the better.
  • Make short-term goals: Try to make short-term goals that will be easier to reach. If you have a long-term goal, you can break it up into smaller short-term goals that won’t seem overwhelming.
  • Talk to friends/family: Once you have narrowed down your resolutions be sure to share them with family and close friends, sharing with others and talking about your resolutions will make you accountable and help you keep your resolutions. Getting support and motivation from loved ones can also make a big difference.
  • Don’t give up: It may seem hard to stick to your resolution but don’t give up! Be patient and persistent. New routines will turn into the habit after a few weeks of sticking to it.
  • Reward yourself: If you have been sticking to your resolutions be sure to reward yourself.  Feeling good about reaching a goal will help you keep at it.

  1. Great tips and ideas. I like the short term plans/ goals!

  2. Golden rules of setting resolutions/goals. Great share, especially to write them down, tell friends and family. Setting realistic goals is the key.

  3. Great tips. My best advice is make a resolution and don’t tell anyone… Make it small and keep it to yourself; so if you need to take a break from the “resolution” no one will judge. Failing is okay… Pressure is not.

  4. Great tips! Making attainable goals, instead of huge unrealistic ones helps a lot! Happy New Year to you 🙂

  5. I have never made a New Year’s resolution, I don’t see much point really, if I want to do something then I start when I’ve decided I’d like to do whatever it is. 🙂

  6. This year I didn’t go crazy with my resolutions. I realized how important family and close friends are and that I don’t keep in touch with them or see them as much as i should so i want to change that this year

  7. These are awesome tips. I didn’t make any resolutions this year because I never follow through with them, although I think I would have stuck to them a lot longer if I had known these tips! I especially like the Reward Yourself one.

  8. I know one of your tips is to not give up but I decided a long time ago to not make New Years Resolutions because I never kept them and then I always felt bad about myself. So instead I try to just do the best I can at everything and when I stumble I don’t get angry etc. I just try to be good at being me, whatever that may be.

  9. I wonder what percentage of New Year’s Resolutions have already fell by the wayside.

  10. Planning is so important – thinking about what is stopping you from achieving the goal and planning around that obstacle!

  11. Great tips, I didn’t make any resolutions this year. I just hope to eat better and live life to the fullest.
