We just returned from an absolutely magical visit to Walt Disney World in Orlando, and I’m thrilled to share our experience with you! Disney graciously hosted us, and we had the chance to explore the parks during one of the most festive times of the year. From the Halloween décor to the vibrant fall environment in Magic Kingdom, every moment felt magical.
I wanted to write this post to share tips and must-knows before you head to the parks, and also let you know that I can help plan your perfect Disney vacation, drawing on my years of experience and our very recent trip.
Our Family Disney Adventure
This trip was a three-generation adventure. My mom, my youngest son, and I went to experience the magic together. While we visit Disneyland regularly, this was my 11-year-old son’s first time at Walt Disney World. On the way there, he asked, “Is Walt Disney World the same as Disneyland?” I laughed and said, “Just wait.”
Walt Disney World is on a whole other scale. Did you know it’s almost the same size as the city of Vancouver? That’s how big it is!
Having visited Disney at different ages, from my youngest son in a stroller to adults traveling alone, each visit brings a unique experience. With my 11-year-old, we were able to focus on all the rides. In fact, we rode everything in all four parks—what an adventure!
My mom and I had been to Disney World before, but seen my son experience it for the first time and see that magic through his eyes was amazing!
Where We Stayed: Port Orleans Riverside
We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside Resort, a beautiful, sprawling resort with Southern-inspired architecture, winding rivers, and peaceful, spacious grounds that make it feel like a serene retreat right in the middle of all the Disney magic. It felt quiet, private, and perfect for relaxing after a day at the parks.
Staying on-site at a Disney Resort is a must. Here’s why:
-
Convenience: Easy access to parks via Disney’s free transportation system—buses, boats, and the Skyliner.
-
Extra Magic Hours: Enjoy the parks before or after regular operating hours.
-
Immersive Experience: The resorts themselves feel like part of the magic.
-
Cost-effective: Staying on-site isn’t as expensive as you might think when you factor in the perks and time saved.
Top Tips for Your Walt Disney World Vacation
1. Pick the Best Time to Visit
We visited in October, which was perfect. The parks were less crowded, and the fall décor added a magical touch. If you work with me, I can help you choose the ideal dates for fewer crowds and a more enjoyable experience.
2. Wear Comfortable Shoes & Stay Hydrated
Disney days are long. On our first park day, I realized I was dehydrated after just a few hours. After switching to 5–6 bottles of water plus electrolyte packets, I felt much better. Remember, you could be walking 25,000 steps or more per day in 30°C weather with high humidity!
3. Invest in Lightning Lane Passes
Lightning Lane passes are game-changers. They let you skip long lines (40–60+ minutes) so you can enjoy more rides and experiences. I always include them in my vacation budget, and they’re absolutely worth it.
4. Schedule Pool Breaks
Plan a midday break to recharge at your resort pool. At Port Orleans, we loved grabbing a delicious lunch at the food court, relaxing by the pool, and heading back to the parks refreshed for evening fun. I can help you design an itinerary that balances park time and rest to avoid burnout.
5. Invest in Disney’s PhotoPass!
It’s worth it because professional photographers capture magical moments all around the parks, so you don’t have to worry about juggling kids, snacks, and cameras. Plus, you get high-quality digital downloads of all your photos, including on-ride pictures and character interactions, so you’ll have every magical memory perfectly captured!
6. Take Advantage of Disney Promotions
Right now, there’s a Canadian Residents promo: you can book Walt Disney World tickets for 25% off! It’s available until November 7, so don’t miss your chance to save. I can keep you updated on all current promotions.
Why Disney is Perfect for Multi-Generational Travel
This trip reminded me why Disney is ideal for all ages. My mom loved bonding with us, going on rides, and creating memories, while my son enjoyed all the rides, shows, snacks, and character interactions.
We had the chance to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, and it was so much fun! The park is transformed into a spooky-yet-sweet wonderland, with themed decorations, trick-or-treating throughout, and exclusive entertainment. We loved seeing our favorite characters in their Halloween costumes, enjoying the special parades and fireworks, and even getting on rides with shorter lines during the party. It’s such a festive, family-friendly experience that makes Disney magic feel extra special, and of course, dressing up just adds to the fun! Party tickets are limited, but I can guide you to the best times and dates to snag them.
