NUU Mobile X4: A Great Entry Level Smartphone

If you are looking for a reasonably priced entry level smartphone the new X4 from NUU Mobile may be the right smartphone for you. This new Android device from the Hong Kong-based company NUU costs $169.99 and it comes with a 2 year limited warranty.

Hardward and Software

The X4 features a 1.3 GHz Quad-Core processor with 1 GB RAM and it comes loaded with Android Lollipop OS. It also has 16 GB of internal memory but you can use a microSD™ card for up to 32 GB of expandable storage.

Application response time is o.k. and performance is not too bad for an entry level smartphone. Definitively not a device to load with graphically intense apps or games but good enough for most common apps, including e-mail, browsing the web and playing music.

The new X4 has been designed to feel and look good. The zinc-aluminium alloy casing is smooth and sleek and in general this device is a good looking smartphone. The phone is pretty ergonomic and all of the buttons are placed where they should be to make them easy to find.

The NUU X4 has a 5.0” HD touchscreen and 1280 x 720 resolution with 294 pixels-per-inch. The display quality is o.k. and so is the colour quality.

The X4 features a 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP front-facing camera.  The phone takes pretty good photos and you can also take video. Even though there is a low-light sensor the camera does best in well-lit environments or daylight, so I wouldn’t recommend it for taking shots at nigh-time or in low-light as you would end up with lots of grainy images then.

Dual SIM card

A pretty useful feature with the X4 is the ability to use two SIM cards when needed. You can use two phone numbers on a single device and instantly switch networks without removing or replacing SIM cards. This is wonderful to have for people who travel lots and have two different numbers to avoid roaming fees. No need to carry two different devices with the X4.

NUU is a new firm to me but then I’m not the one buying smart phones, my son does all of that for me too. I don’t think this would be a phone for me as I now have a Motorola and find the camera disappointing, so next time I’d like a phone with a good camera.

Yeah, the camera can be a deal breaker. I use my phone’s camera more than my DSLR so it’s important for me when picking a phone as well.

Thinking about a smartphone rather than just a basic phone. It is good to know there are some more basic phones out there. Thank you for doing this review.
